Citizens for Responsible Animal Shelter Management

Mission statement

Citizens for Responsible Animal Shelter Management (CRASM) is a non-profit watchdog organization dedicated to promoting ethical and accountable management  in municipal animal shelters. CRASM investigates complaints of neglect, abuse, misconduct, and violations of humane law filed by shelter staff, volunteers and citizens. CRASM is a resource for local and state humane laws, and actively promotes proactive animal shelter and animal control legislation.

Who We Are

Amy Strickland is the founder of CRASM, and she serves as the Chairperson. Prior to starting CRASM she worked for twelve years at three different municipal and one non-profit animal shelter. Ms. Strickland's positions included; Shelter Manager, Programs Manager, Animal Care Supervisor, Client Services Supervisor, Volunteer and Foster Care Coordinator, Animal Control Officer and Animal Health Technician. Ms. Strickland is a California state certified euthanasia technician, and a California State Humane Officer. Currently, Ms. Strickland is completing her undergraduate degree and applying to law school.

Kristina Jones is the co-founder of CRASM. Kristina is currently the Office Manager at Adobe Animal Hospital in Santa Cruz, CA. Before Adobe, Kristina worked at Santa Cruz County Animal Services Authority as the Volunteer and Foster Coordinator. She started working with animals when she was 15 as a volunteer at Nevada County Animal Control in Grass Valley, CA. She came to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC and graduated in 2007. She interned at Animal Services before becoming hired and has a passion for homeless animals. Kristina has several pets of her own and continues to foster for the local animal shelter and other community rescues.
